According to http://www.processlibrary.com/directory/files/fwupdate/, it is an utility to auto-update the firmware of LG devices. If you don't want it every time you log on, click Start, type msconfig, hit ENTER, go to the Startup tab and see if Fwupdate.exe is listed there. If so, uncheck it, click OK, and restart the computer.

LG is a maker of tvs, monitors, dvd writers,etc. I believe this exe. file was installed with the firmware for the dvd writer. I don't believe it is malware. It just checks for updates .

You're my hero. That stupid ****** updater failed, and put up a message stating "Failed to start. Please reinstall". The owner of the computer assumed it meant "re-install windows".
After spending a while removing extra versions of windows from his pc, there's your simple and perfect solution right there. I'mma gona image this pc now.
