AOLDesktop Gold kept crashing and this EXE was the reported process. Its size varied anywhere up to 1.5MB! AND there were always several instances of it running (up to 18 at a time) in the Windows Task Manager Processes list. Deleting these from Task Manager did not appear to affect or be needed by AOL. The only place I found this file on the hard drive and the registry (but the location was not disclosed) was in the Incomedia WebSite X5 software. After deleting this program and the file in the registry, AOL not longer crashes with CefSharp… as the culprit. Somehow something is still load this process (from where???) but the size never exceeds 50k or more than 9 instances.

I'm having experiences similar to Richard Gebhart's. CefSharp.BrowserSubproess.exe is the cause. AOL's desktop installation process put that program in my AppData/Local/AOLDesktop/ folder. It is apparently an add-on to the AOL browser.

@Long @gebhart: My understanding of CefSharp.BrowserSubprocess.exe is that it is a component used by a lot of software. CefSharp.BrowserSubprocess.exe allows programs, such as AOLDesktop to show web content, using the Chromium browser.

Chromium is the open source project that writes the code for Googles Chrome browser.

I think your best bet is to check if there's an update available from AOL and see if that one works better.

If that did not work, please contact AOL to see if they have some workaround for the bug.

Please let us know if you find a solution to the problem.

Regarding the message about CefSharp running in AOL Desktop Gold, it appears to be associated with the AIM applet within the Desktop program. Closing the AIM window appears to discontinue that part of the process (the 1.5 Megs in his case, 500K in mine).

Using Webroot security I get the message that cefsharp.browsersubprocess.exe has a possible memory leak. Does anyone else get this and what do i do about it?

Not an answer but I'm having the same problem. I've only noticed it since installing AOL Gold (a few hours ago). I would like to get rid of it and maybe chrome as well for that matter. Is this doable?

@karen: I think if you remove CefSharp browser, AOL gold will not show website content. CefSharp is the component that renders the website inside AOL Gold.

This piece of trash is slowing aol to the point of not wanting to use it. Every time I click on an email it takes 10+ seconds to see the message. I removed it but knowing aol it will probably be back.

I've had this problem with AOL Gold too. I open Task Manger and see 6 instances of CefSharp with 2 pulling down my CPU 20-25% each + 30% AOL.exe. What a resource hog! The result is I can't open my mail sometimes, other times it is delayed coming up. So as I closed CefSharp and the advertisements on right side close. Close all instances and no advertisements, but it does come back. Why I pay AOL and get advertisements I don't know!

I have all the same problems as others here, and I can't seem to uninstall or permanently delete this CPU hog, so I keep task mgr always open and just close the Cefsharps that are using the most CPU power. I don't want to lose web content on AOL if deleting it causes that, but there must be a workaround for this POS. Like AlBee wrote, why are we paying for AOL only to have huge delays, 6-8 pop up ads on a page at a time, and it's always SOOOOO slow.

I checked out CefSharp.BowserSubprocess.exe. I searched and found it in Program Files (x86)-Garmin-Express. Ran Spybot and Malwarebytes. No problems detected.
No backslash on my phone. Used a dash.
Why is there no backslash on my phone? Didn't realize that.

I saw this popping up through the Razor Synapse LED program. Guess it downloaded with Razor It runs about 51.5MB RAM on idle and I have no idea why it is needed for the LEDS.
