I will have to call HP Support. They enjoy the calls and live to resolves all HP product problems.
I recently corrupted the entire 1 TB drive. Both the C and the D. They will always get you into the diagnostic page, which is F2. Power off, then press F2 all thru the basic Boot, and you will find a wealth of tools to test your HP Drive (s)
Hp makes sure the Hard Drive is good, before they advise the solution. If the HD does not pass the simple SMART or short DST test, they will for free a HD replacement.
Then they give you five days to return the faulty HD in the same box the replacement was delivered in, or you will pay the full cost of the replacement drive.
I have been the recipient of both. One a HD replacement, and Two, my most recent full corruption of my own HD, a USB restore drive ( there is no optical drive built in this HP.)
They make it easy, provided you will do it their way. Listen , talk, come into agreement, and you will get it done.
