Apparently MCTDUtil.exe is a service related to the the little hardware/software devices that are being sold by several companies to allow you to use more than one display via a USB port, rather than having to purchase and install a video card.
For example, I purchased an adapter made by j5Create. They have several models, one each for VGA, DVI or HDMI using either USB 2.0 or 3.0 and they claim that 2, 3, 4, or more displays can be added - you just have to buy an adapter for each.

The added display is unsuitable for intensive things like gaming or video streaming, but works great for the usual "office" type stuff where you have several applications running and need an extended display.

I use several of these with a ThinkPad t420. Since I just have the base graphic chipset, I can only use two displays. Adding two of the USB devices gives me a total of four screens. If I didn't think I was already pushing the performance boundary, I would keep going.
