I got this message when I tried to start Nitro Pro 10. I got another, more helpful because it had the file name, when I tried to run as admin. With the file name, I could google it and piece together the picture. I was lucky. This error popped up less than 24 hours after I had done some massive system cleaning (with great results). So I knew that I had just shut off a whole lot of services in MSConfig. It's totally legit; Nitro requires it. It was a good reminder about being careful and systematic, and backing up, when making system changes. The only additional caveat is that I read that malware can MASQUERADE as legit programs and that could change everything. Hope this helps someone.
