Hi, on the subject of the WindowsMangerProtect I noticed the misspelt "Manger" bit on this file name, any way it appears on my laptop as "Windows Security" it occurs when I attempt to take ownership of most of my files from "trustedinstaller" as I click apply a small window pops up named "windows security" and tells me "if you have just taken ownership of this object you will need to close and reopen this objects properties before you can view or change permissions" and the only way to get this info box off your screen is to click OK, or the cross on the corner of it, you cant drop it down or click the screen behind to come to the front, when you click OK or the X to get rid of it it cancels the attempt that you made to take ownership or change permissions, and the ownership is retained by "trustedinstaller" you can change ownership or permissions and even click 'apply' but when you click OK windows security pops up every time. hope this helps, ps, im not too articulate but I hope it makes sense, I haven't a clue of how to get rid of it but I would if I could. Good luck and peace to you all, Kenny UK

I was able to remove the ProtectWindowsManager.exe file with FreeFixer as shown in the blog post above. I don't remember if the malware had an uninstall entry in the Windows Control Panel, but if it does you can start out the removal with that one.
