There's a thread over at Garmin's forum, where users have similar problems with esu.exe is crashing. At the end of the thread a representative from Garmin responds that the issue has been solved with the release of "Garmin Express 5.4.0.0" which can be downloaded from here:

http://download.garmin.com/omt/express/B/GarminExpressInstaller.exe
