Still not 100% sure about ''gmpopenh264.dll'', but Firefox says it's safe/ok so that will do for me.

OpenH264 Video CODEC provided by Cisco Systems, Inc.
This is a video CODEC plugin for Mozilla Firefox.
More information could be found in the following link:

It should be safe. I didn't see any suspicious activity from the file in the duration of 2 months.

Norton Internet Security picked it up on my laptop and said it was safe.

I installed Flash in Firefox and Norton popped up saying "gmpopenh264.exe was safe." Otherwise I would not have noticed it. I googled and checked one sight "herd..." something, which said it was malware from Eastern Europe and that they would clean it for me. I'm suspicious of their claims so I checked your sight, thankfully. Your sight is much more informative. I will hold off on deleting it until I get trustworthy confirmation that it is malicious.

I got a popup from Norton saying that "gmpopenh264.dll is safe".
I was alarmed coz it seemed like the file just downloaded itself.
Since then my computer has been slammed with pop-ups.

I just found this file.. long overdue mind you.. along with a bunch of CNCARBO.DLL, CNMLR.DLL, AND CNMSR.DLL... which are known bad news. I am so lucky! haha.. but I just wanted to comment that my GMPOPENH264.DLL is a variant MD5 file # EA3D36516F6119E7480912BC6ABA432F. add it to the list!
The title also says POP.. how coincidental the popups have increased! Thanks good luck and wish me some!
