I think wpxsvc.exe is no virus because it is installed into directory of an anti-theft program called Prey

I'm one of the developers behind Prey. WPXSVC stands for Windows Prey eXecution SerViCe. It's a small daemon in charge of monitoring our anti-theft agent, which is based on the Node.js runtime.

I don't know. I've had Prey installed on my laptop for a few years under Win8 and never noticed any problems with it. I recently (4 weeks ago) upgraded to Win 10 and didn't notice any problems there either. However, After being unused for a few days and not having any problems the last time I used it, just today my computer has seen 99% disk usage for the past few hours, completely attributed to this "Execution Service (32bit)/Cron Service".
I went to de-install "Prey" as that's the only thing I can associate this with but Prey is no longer there (!!! - maybe it was left behind during the Win 10 upgrade?). Yet, what appears to be this left over element of Prey is still running and chewing up my disk at a rate of about 11.4Mb/S
I "End Task" it but it just restarts itself.
My computer scans clean with Defender.
Not sure what's going on..
If I could de-install it I would, if only for test purposes...

I am getting a critical event error for wpxsvc.exe, it says stopped working. This shows in Control Panel > Action Center > under Maintenance > View Reliability History, then the Reliability Monitor opens. (I am running Win7Pro)
Starting 9/1/2016, I have Critical Event that says Execution Service Stopped Working. Double-click on the line to get the details window, and the Description says: Faulting Application Path: c:\Windows\Prey\wpxsvc.exe
So I went to C:\Windows\Prey\versions, and there is a folder called 1.6.2 with a date of 9/1/2016, so it looks like it installed a new version, 1.6.2, on 9/1/2016.
On 9/2/2016, I got an email from Prey that said my device hasn't made any contact to the Prey servers in 1 day.
So it looks like this new version 1.6.2 broke something????
When I searched online for "wpxsvc.exe" this is the first site that appeared :)
