I have had a problem with google searches being redirected. I tried a variety of commercial and free spyware programs. Only adware detected the problem but it did not fix it (Maybe because the host file is set to read only). Eventually I manually deleted my current host file and replaced it with a backup from March which is before the time when the infection occurred. I immediately saw an increase in my browser perfomance and I tried several searches which had been redirected in Google and now they work fine.
