Great Apps - 26% Detection Rate *

Did you just find a download or a file on your computer that has a digital signature from Great Apps? Some of the security products refers to the detected files as Generic.023 and PUP.Optional.CrimeWatch.A. The detection rate for the Great Apps files collected here is 26%. Please read on for more details.

You will probably see Great Apps when running the file. The publisher name is then displayed as the "Verified publisher" in the UAC dialog as the screenshot shows:

You can view additional details from the Great Apps certificate with the following steps:

  1. Open Windows Explorer and locate the Great Apps file
  2. Right-click the file and select Properties
  3. Click the Digital Signatures tab
  4. Click the View Certificate button

As you can see in the screenshot above, the Windows OS reports that "This digital signature is OK". This implies that the file has been published by Great Apps and that the file has not been tampered with.

If you click the View Certificate button shown in the screenshot above, you can view all the details of the certificate, such as when it was issued, who issued the certificate, how long it is valid, and so on. You can also examine the address for Great Apps, such as the street name, city and country.

Symantec Class 3 SHA256 Code Signing CA has issued the Great Apps certificates. You can also view the details of the issuer by clicking the View Certificate button shown in the screenshot above.

* How the Detection Percentage is Calculated
