Nokia - 0% Detection Rate *

Did you just download a file that has been digitally signed by Nokia and wonder if the file is safe? If that's the case, please read on.

You will probably notice Nokia when clicking to run the file. The publisher name is then displayed as the "Verified publisher" in the UAC dialog as the screenshot shows:

You can view additional details from the Nokia certificate with the following steps:

  1. Open up Windows Explorer and locate the Nokia file
  2. Right-click the file and select Properties
  3. Click on the Digital Signatures tab
  4. Click the View Certificate button

Here is a screenshot of a file digitally signed by Nokia:

Screenshot of the Nokia certificate

As you can see in the screenshot above, Windows reports that "This digital signature is OK". This implies that the file has been published by Nokia and that the file has not been tampered with.

If you click the View Certificate button shown in the screenshot above, you can examine all the details of the certificate, such as when it was issued, who issued the certificate, how long it is valid, etc. You can also see the address for Nokia, such as the street name, city and country.

VeriSign Class 3 Code Signing 2010 CA and VeriSign Class 3 Code Signing 2009-2 CA has issued the Nokia certificates. You can also see the details of the issuer by clicking the View Certificate button shown in the screenshot above.

Nokia Files

These are the Nokia files I've collected, thanks to the FreeFixer users.

The FreeFixer tool treats files from Nokia as trusted, which means that the Nokia files will appear with a green background and that there is no removal checkbox for the file. However, as you can see in the scan results below, a few of the anti-virus scanners detects the Nokia file(s). I'm pretty sure those detections are false positives and that the files are safe. It's unlikely that Nokia would ship a malware file.

* How the Detection Percentage is Calculated

The detection percentage is based on the fact that I have gathered 1270 scan results for the Nokia files. 0 of these scan results came up with some sort of detection. You can review the full details of the scan results by examining the files listed above.
