Did you just find a download or a file on your computer that has a digital signature from Visual Tools? Some of the security products refers to the detected files as PUP/Searchgol and Artemis. The detection rate for the Visual Tools files collected here is 12%. Please read on for more details.

You'll probably see Visual Tools when running the file. The publisher name is displayed as the "Verified publisher" in the UAC dialog as the screencap shows:

You can view the additional details from the Visual Tools digital signature with the following procedure:

  1. Open Windows Explorer and locate the Visual Tools file
  2. Right-click on the file and select Properties
  3. Click on the Digital Signatures tab
  4. Click on the View Certificate button

Here is a screencap of a file that has been signed by Visual Tools:

Screenshot of the Visual Tools certificate

As you can see in the screenshot above, Windows states that "This digital signature is OK". This implies that the file has been published by Visual Tools and that no one has tampered with the file.

If you click the View Certificate button shown in the screenshot above, you can see all the details of the certificate, such as when it was issued, who issued the certificate, how long it is valid, and so on. You can also see the address for Visual Tools, such as the street name, city and country.

Thawte Code Signing CA - G2 and thawte SHA256 Code Signing CA has issued the Visual Tools certificates. You can also view the details of the issuer by clicking the View Certificate button shown in the screenshot above.
